Czech TCM school

Curriculum of Czech school of TCM

Ceskoslovenska sinobiologicka společnost – Czechoslovak Sinobiology Society
I.skola tradicni cinske mediciny – First school of Traditional Chinese Medicine

We exist since 1990 and at that time we cooperated with UEMTC – Université Européenne de Médecine Traditionelle Chinoise. After the dissolution of this school we continued to work with some of the former teachers and than in 1997 thanks to Francoise Marquer from Chuzhen we started cooperating with Guangming Zhongyi Hanshou Daxue so the main lecturing was for 6 years done by Chinese professors from Beijing who would come 4 x per year.
Since 2002 we now teach the first two years ourselves and than clinical acupuncture and internal medicine (neike) is tought by the chinese professors that we cooperate with.
Fee per year is roughly 600 EU for 200 contact teaching hours in five 5day seminars.
We are interested in cooperating with all other European schools of TCM!
Please feel free to contact bendova@tcm.cz

Exams
Final exam texts come from the Chinese Guangming University. There are smaller exams at the end of every year of study and small tests at every seminar.

1.The first year
is obligatory for everyone and lectures are done only on Foundations of TCM.
In all the first year has 25 days(200hours) lecturing time

Textbooks
We use translations of chinese texts into Czech language (same textbooks as are used by Chuzhen Institute in France who also cooperate with Guangming)
We also use Czech books written by Vladimir Ando – a Czech sinologist apecialising for 20 years in TCM and our chief translator.
We also use translations of G.Maciocias books that are slowly being translated.
We have recomended reading lists in English, French, German, Russian, books in our library etc
We have also translated, edited and financed (and almost ruined ourselves) – Annals on acupuncture from clinics in Nanjing and Beijing – so this book exists in Czech

Practical seminars
Besides the Chinese professors we have small group seminars on tongue diagnosis, pulse diagnosis, meridians and points, differential diagnosis etc and also free consultations on any topic that becomes difficult to understand for students. These seminars are done by older Czech practitioners or other Europeans. Usually there are 5 seminars of this type per year which amounts to 40-60 hours non compulsory contact teaching per year.

2.The second year
students decide to study either acupuncture or phytotherapy.

I.Acupuncture
-students study the first year of acupuncture (second year of their studies) only meridians and localisation of acu points, different types of points, techniques of stimulation etc
(for which we have special anatomy seminars, that are not compulsory ).
This means 25 days (200 hours) are devoted only to localisation of acu points and meridians, different types of points, theoretical uses, practical ways of stimulation etc.

The second year of acupuncture studies (third year of all the study) students study clinical acupuncture lectured by the chinese. 24 days (192) hours are devoted to clinical lecturing including case histories of patients etc.
At the end of the this year there is an obligatory seminar in Tuina massage and Qigong and if there is enough interest we are planning a year of tuina massage, may be also open to students after completing their first year of study
The fourth year students visit clinics of acupuncture and individual practitioners

Textbooks
– we use Czech textbooks on acupuncture and our own materials on acupuncture points, methods of stimulations etc

Seminars
– beside the Chinese professors we have short seminars with Czech, French, Canadian or any other people that propose interesting themes.

II.Phytotherapy
-students study the second year(first year of phytotherapy) only herbs (around 400herbs from 20 different groups – jiebiao, qingre etc) and their preparations.
This means 25days (200 hours) devoted to individual herbs
-the third year only herbal formulas (around 200 formulas from 8-18 groups etc) are studied, there are 5 days per year for practical work with the herbs
This means 25 days (200 hours) devoted to formulas
-the fourth year neike is studied with the finese lecturers (use of different herbs for different clinical patterns)
This means 24 days (192 hours) of lecturing
In case of enough students -the fifth year Shanghan lun is studied and than Erke, Fuke, Wai bing according to demand of students which means 2 years of post graduate studies.

Textbooks –
we have our own short textbooks on essential information on herbs, have translated Wang Ang - Beicao beiyao from French Chuzhen materials and also have recomended textbook lists in English and French

Seminars
besides the Chinese we have seminars with Czech, French, Canadian or any other people proposing interesting themes.

III. Paralel seminars
Because of the isolation of the Czech republic in the past many topics are interesting so we have had seminars by Vladimir Nachatoy on TCM in Russia, Michel Vinogradoff on Chinese philosophy and Yijing, seminars on Chinese astrology by Francoise Bernier, seminars on Leung Kok Yuen phytotherapy and formulas by Philippe Riviere from Canada, seminars on chinese cooking and dietetics etc.
